Busy Day
Today was Mike's mom's birthday. We had invited her and Frank over to dinner. Lois likes pizza but doesn't get to eat it very often so Mike thought we should have that for dinner. And he suggested we make it ourselves.
When the girls were little we used to make our own pizza all the time but that isn't something we have done in years. Then I had the idea that we should have bread sticks and salad as the sides. However, if we are going to have homemade pizza dough that I can't very well buy the bread sticks. Those were going to have to be homemade too. Once I completed the menu with homemade angel food cake that pretty much guaranteed that Mike and I would be in the kitchen all afternoon.
Neither of us minded doing the cooking and baking but we already had an unforeseen project on our plate. The previous evening after a steady day of rain, the basement had started to flood. To keep the situation under control, we had set up a towel brigade to handle the problem. The builder had dropped by early but they were unable to fix the problem which meant we had to continue to mop up the incoming water with towels and then wash and dry the wet towels before they were needed again.
With teamwork, Mike and I were able to handle the water problem and produce an edible dinner on time. Our guests seemed to enjoy themselves and we intend to save all our recipes and have this meal again. Definitely a productive (and fun) day!
Lois looking at her present. The evening theme was 'Italian' and we had the colors of the Italian flag in all our decorations. |

Well "the basement started to flood" is a little harsh. There is a trickle of water coming in along the foundation. Yes, it needs to be fixed, but far from a flood.
