Nature Watching
Mike and I were in our way into town today to do the weekly errands. We had to take the dog to the groomer, drop a book at the library, mail a package at the post office and drop off a donation to the thrift shop. I turned towards Mike to give him the list of all that needed to be done and saw a bald eagle out the truck window. It was sitting in a farm field. Mike hit the brakes and we tried to take its picture. She was camera shy so this is the best we could do.
I did some Internet searching and seeing bald eagles in Illinois is not that uncommon. Here are a few facts I found on an Alton Illinois website which is a winter home for bald eagles.
Facts & Information On American Bald Eagles
Eat fish, carrion, smaller birds and rodents
Soars through the sky rather than flap wings
There is a large amount of bald eagles in Alaska and Canada
Use their talons to fish or steal the kills from other animals
Live near coasts and lakes where there is a large amount of fish
Can live up to 28 years
Both female and male bald eagles have blackish-brown body, white head, neck and tail, yellow feet, legs and beak and pale yellow eyes
Bald eagles weigh anywhere from 6.5 pounds to 14 pounds
Their body is usually 34 inches to 45 inches long.
That isn't the only animals we have seen lately. Here is a picture from our game camera. Looks like our deer are alive and well and having a good time.
