Gourmet Dining in Breese

An 87 year old friend of Mike's, Marlin, recommended Wally's Drive-In in Breese for hamburgers.  Mike and I have been waiting for a special occasion to try these burgers.  We got it this weekend when Laura came to visit.  We try to do special activities when the girls come to visit so they will keep on coming.

Wally's was originally a gas station but Wally Knue changed it to a burger place in 1951.  Since then he, his brother, and now his brothers son have run the place.  I had the classic burger ($1.95) which is a thin burger, bun and pickles.  It was good.  The owners say the key to their success is that the beef is fresh and ground daily on the premises.  They also say the burgers are so thin that people have been trying to set a record for the number of Wally's burger patties to be placed in a bun.  The record so far is 11.

When we arrived the parking lot was packed and there were a lot of people waiting.  Supposedly this is not uncommon.  On Saturday and Sundays, the wait outside can be forty five minutes.  However, even though it was raining, everyone was in a pleasant and friendly mood.  Many seemed to know each other and they waved at friends who drove by passing cars.

Wally's received the Peterson highest approval rating.  We will be back.
