Thanksgiving
2016

The day began at five am not because we were cooking this great meal (which we did later) but because we registered for the Gobble Hobble Fun Run in Highland.   Check in was at 6:30 am and it took forty five minutes to get there.  The temperature was in the 30's so it also took some planning for us three girls (guest Laura Flannery, daughter Emily and myself) to be dressed appropriately. They gave out free long sleeve t-shirts which we wore but under our warmer clothes.  The race began at 7 am and I was the last one done at about 7:32.  Mike waited in the car.

Once home, we showered, ate a breakfast quiche made from duck eggs and began preparations for our early afternoon Thanksgiving meal.  Our other dinner guests (Frank and Lois Peterson) live across the street which takes a lot of pressure off.  If we run into any difficulties or the turkey cooks faster than anticipated it is no problem to convince them to change their arrival time since it only takes a few minutes for them to get to our house.

We dived up meal responsibilities.  Laura Flannery handled table favors.  Emily made the turkey, potatoes, stuffing and gravy.  I handled the green beans, deviled chicken eggs, roasted beet salad and fruit salad.  Mike carved the turkey and supervised logistics as we were using two ovens- one in the house and one in the shed.

Later in the day we heard from other family members.  Laura was with Suzanne and Heath in Dallas.  They also squeezed in a fun run in the morning.  Suzanne bested her time from the previous year (where she was last) and then they had a fantastic meal over at Suzanne's roommates parents home.  The California Spilsbury's went out to eat for a more relaxing day.  Sounds like everyone had a perfect Thanksgiving day.
