Christmas 2016, continued

Christmas morning began with breakfast.  Kim made Blueberry and Banana Oatmeal a favorite with everyone except the Peterson men and Heath made real hot chocolate.  The Peterson men ate leftover Krispy Kreme donuts from the birthday party.

We opened presents in the living room.

Then everyone dispersed to get ready for the day and handle their cooking chores.  Emily handled turkey, stuffing and gravy.  I had done the prep work the day before on the mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, roasted beet salad and green bean casserole.  Heath finished up the sweet potato casserole and worked with Suzanne on the brussel sprouts and Quinoa Acorn Squash recipe.  Laura baked homemade rolls over in the shed (Mike had made the dough and his niece, Mary had rolled them out into crescent shapes ahead of time) and laid out the Christmas tree kiwi plate.  Mike carved the turkey and we finally got the meal on the tables in the basement which Laura had set the night before.

We got many compliments on the meal which also included a Honey Baked Ham provided as a Christmas gift by our farmer.  As a result meat eaters and vegetarians had plenty of food choices.

After dinner we had pie and Hank's cheesecake.  Suzanne made the pecan pie from scratch.  Fortunately for us she had leftover pie crust.  Later in the week she made us blackberry tarts (blackberries locally grown and picked by our neighbors last summer) that were delicious.

to be continued...
