Long Range Planning
It is good to have goals. Some of them get accomplished sooner than others. Three of my goals got accomplished last week. That was pretty impressive since they were all about two years old.
My first goal was to move our trash dumpster. We need the dumpster but we do not need it at the head of the drive at least in my opinion. The trash company does not agree. They were the ones who put it so that every guest who comes down the drive sees it first thing. This was not the first impression I wanted people to have of our place. I know I pointed this out to Mike at least a few times. However, he got so used to having it there he added a burn barrels right next to it. My second goal was to get rid of that burn barrel.
My third goal involved the big oak tree that is at the head of the drive. It is a beautiful huge old oak tree. Unfortunately, one of its giant limbs is hanging upside down from the top of the tree all the way to the ground. I have spent the last two years framing all my pictures of our grounds so they do not include this tree with the ugly dead limb. I had no idea how we were going to get that limb off that tree safely but I wanted it gone.
All these problem were resolved last week when Mike put in a new road. The first thing the excavators did was add more rock all around the front of the shed directly off the drive. I happened to mention to them I wanted that dumpster moved and they took care of it. Then Mike went to get his Dad's tractor and he removed the burn barrel. Both Frankie and I think it looks much better.
The excavators brought more rock and continued the road past the old oak tree. It looks so nice Mike took the time to get rid of the broken tree limb. He pushed it off the tree, cut it up into logs and took them to a neighbor to use for his wood burning stove.
The new road extends all the way to our corn field.
The question now is what are we going to put at the end of this road that goes no where.
The answer to that questions involves one of Mike's long range goals. Stay tuned to the blog to find out what will be built at the end of this road.
