The Geese Return
Mike and I think our pond would be a great place for geese to hang out at during the winter. The geese apparently do not think so because up until the last few days we have not seen any this winter. Of course, we do have some stiff competition in Coffeen Lake. It is very nearby as the geese flies and the lake is fed warm water by the adjacent power plant.
So we think that six of the geese that normally hang around Coffeen Lake are now coming visit us out of boredom. They either come here for a change of scenery or they come to challenge Frankie, our young Basset Hound.
A loud honking announce their arrival in the morning. Mike is usually doing chores at the chicken coop and he hears them come in as does Frankie who is supervising said chores.
Frankie proceeds to meander down to the pond's edge - not taking a direct route and never looking directly at the water. Once Frankie arrives at water's edge, he looks up at the geese who immediately turn their backs and swim farther out to the center of the pond.
Frankie waves the white flag. He is not going to swim after those geese so he turns his back on them. They immediately turn back and swim after him. Honking to get his attention.
This game continues until something better comes along. In this instance, Mike came looking for Frankie and Frankie went running to see his best bud.
All in all I approve of this game. It keeps Frankie from playing his other new game which is search and destroy ping pong balls in the basement. If it is a choice between buying new ping pong balls to replace the old ones Frankie destroys or having Frankie chase geese, I vote geese.
