Gazebo Finished Just In Time
Work on the gazebo stalled when it came time to put on the last piece. After all the hard work getting the roof on, Mike needed a break. Plus that cupola is heavy and installing it involved crawling to the center of the gazebo roof.
Mike hurt his back. He hurt his back while shoveling dirt around the gazebo. However, I think he hurt his back when he fell in the mud while hiking through the timber during a rain storm. This happened before the shoveling. He just did not feel the pain until later.
Mike said the water fell so hard and fast that the spring we normally walk across was eight inches deep. He knows because he measured it with this stick.
Then once Mike's back felt better, the Morton building crew showed up. Mike had to help them lay out the exact location of the building.
Suzanne was not at all concerned about the delay. She said Mike could just hold the cupola up during the August wedding ceremony. This was looking like a possibility when one bright spring day Mike just decided to make finishing the gazebo the top priority. He said I had to help with the safety end of things. I was to hold the ladder.
And then the gazebo was finally complete.
Now that it is April, I realize how lucky I was that we completed that gazebo in March. When I looked at the calendar I realized that April is the start of mushroom hunting season and the beginning of baseball season! The start of two of Mike's favorite but definitely time consuming hobbies.
