The Color of Money
Last Saturday morning, Laura and I joined our neighbors, the Hemker's in the local Color of Money 5k. I had encouraged the Hemker's to come because Alison, their third grader is my Fitbit Friend. Friend may be a misnomer when it comes to Fitbit's. Actually both Alison and Laura are my Fitbit competitors. We compare our Fitbit steps per day and each one of us tries to be the one with the most steps. Anyway, Alison keeps me on my toes as a walker competitor so I felt sure she would enjoy the 3 mile walk. Besides it was for a good cause. The money went to local charities.

I was wrong. Alison does not like walking all her steps at one time. She prefers to spread them out over the day. I know this because during the last mile of the race she started mentioning that her plans for the rest of the day included a nap. However, she perked up when the race organizers told her there were treats at the finish line. They were great treats too. Besides apples and bananas and water there were Krispy Kreme donuts.
In the meantime, her brother, Hunter, was dragging a little too. Still he found ways to keep himself going. He started collecting treasures on his walk. And it turned out he was really happy when he finished the race. We all were awarded medals and this was the first medal Hunter had ever received.

If Hunter looks a little dirty in the picture above, that was actually part of the race. All of us were covered in corn starch paint. Periodically, along the way, race participants were sprayed with water and then different colors of powdered paint were thrown at us. Once we returned home we were to spray our shirts with vinegar, iron them and then put them in the dryer. Supposedly at that point our plain white shirts would be permanently dyed. We shall see. I intend to follow the instructions and find out. In the meantime, all I know for sure is that based on the picture below, we all had a good time.
