How the Mighty have Fallen

Last Saturday was the third annual Vine to Wine 5k held in Greenville Illinois.  This year Mike and I with Laura, Emily and Emily's friend Dana participated.

I look forward to this race because they give you free locally made wine and a free wine glass after completion of the race.  Plus it is so close to the house we only have to allow 15 minutes to get there.  Plus we are supporting local charities.  This is actually my third year participating and I received a special charm for being a race contestant every year since they began this race.

That was the good news.  The bad news is that I did not place in my age group like I did last year.  I had that third place yellow ribbon pinned to the refrigerator for six months after I won it.  I was so excited.  But there will be no ribbon for me this year.  I placed seventh out of 12.

Depending on your perspective, Mike's or mine, the fact that Mike placed second in his age group is either good news or bad news.  He insists that his ribbon will need to be placed on the refrigerator this year.

The girls did well also.  They were all in the same age group of twenty one runners so they were competitors also.  Emily placed third in the age group with Laura seventh and Dana (who walked with me) tenth.

The other bad news was that it was pouring rain.  Mike had to dry his phone off after the race it had gotten so wet in his pocket.

All I can say is that it is time to start training for next year.  And who knows maybe the whole family can participate this time?
