Not all Fun and Games
Emily's last week at the farm was not all fun and games. I actually made her a to do list and attached it to the door to the garage so she would have to look at it a lot over the course of a day. To her credit, she got it all done.
First, she had to help her dad put away all the boats that were on the pond. All our summer water activities were officially over and we needed to properly store our boats for next summers guests.
Then Emily had to clean out the guest bathroom and the shed apartment. Both places were full of clothing and toiletries she had stored here when she was a college student at Berkeley. Now that she was about to be an employed resident of California, she needed to reclaim her belongings. Besides I might need that space for future visitors.
Then I sent her to Carbondale to clean out the storage locker that held all her undergrad college apartment possessions. I also managed to squeeze in another item on the to do list while she was there. I asked her to bring back a cake from Larry's House of Cakes. They have the best cakes and since our family no longer has students attending SIU Carbondale, we rarely get to eat these cakes.
Of course Emily had her own to do list. It included spending lots of time with the dogs. This sometimes caused a bit of friction over who's to do list had priority- hers or mine.
Nevertheless, Emily has been gone for over a week now and we miss her. I know she misses the pond because we hear from her often. She always asks for the same thing- recent pictures of the dogs.
