Starting Them Young

Mike invited a young man from church to come to our house and to go fishing.  The young man was very excited about this opportunity.  He is an experienced camper and so was interested in fishing.  He is also only four years old.

Isaac and his mother came by about 6:30 on a nice Saturday evening and stayed about an hour.  In that time we learned that Isaac had never been fishing before.  I'm sure his mother was concerned about how we were going to hold his attention until he caught a fish.  This was not a problem.  He caught a fish right away.  Once that happened he told us he wanted to stay and catch nine.  I could tell.  A fisherman had been born.

When Isaac had caught nine fish (eight blue gill and one bass), we decided to stop and feed the catfish.  I really think Isaac was ready for a break but he was not ready to stop.  He kept saying we should continue fishing until he got seven.  It took a bit of explaining to convince him he had already surpassed seven.

Once we finished feeding the catfish, Mike convinced Isaac's mom to let him fish for one more fish.  And this time they caught the biggest one of the day.  In fact, Isaac had to use the net to bring it in.

It was a six pound catfish.  I made sure to get a picture as we know all about fisherman and their exaggerated fish stories.  I wanted him to have proof to back up his story.

I am glad Isaac had such a successful day at fishing.  However, I do feel sorry for his father.  Isaac's dad is not a fisherman but it looks like he may have to become one now.  And he may have trouble replicated a fishing experience like this one.
