Machine Envy

Mike hired a local tree service company to remove some dead trees around our house.  I was actually more concerned about the dead tree that could have dropped at any time onto my gazebo.  I knew if something ever happened to that gazebo no family members were willing to build me a replacement.  Once was enough.  There would be no persuading them to build another.

So Danny and his professional team of tree trimmers arrived early on a Tuesday morning.  Danny got into the bucket of his white truck.  He would be responsible for sawing off the limbs and trunk of each dead tree.  Another person operated the red truck.  He would lower the sawed off limbs or pieces of trunk safely to the ground.  Two men waited on the ground for the tree pieces.  Their goal was to put any of the pieces they could into a large chipper which would grind them down to wood chips.

By the time the guys left for their lunch break, all that was left of our trees was two stumps and a pile of dead tree pieces that could not go into the chipper.  So when they returned they moved the log pile into another truck which would remove all evidence of the dead trees from our property.

Then they ground down the stumps.

Needless to say, Mike enjoyed watching the whole process of tree removal.  He thought it would be a much more labor intensive process than it was.  Our tree service actually was able to achieve so much safely and 'effortlessly' by having the appropriate equipment.  Mike said they had the best 'toys' ever.  I think his favorite was the gigantic and powerful wood chipper.  Fortunately for me, he has too many such 'toys' already on his dream wish list to ever seriously consider getting this one.  We will just have to hire Danny again if we need anymore trees removed.
